How to use Text to Speech on TikTok

In this article, I'll show you how to use the new voice captions on TikTok in 4 easy steps.

• First step: Record/upload your TikTok

First, open Tik Tok on your mobile device and tap "+" at the bottom of the screen. Once you get to the recording screen, simply record or upload a TikTok video by tapping Upload in the bottom right corner. You can record TikTok videos of up to three minutes.

• Step two: add captions to your video

Once you've recorded or uploaded your video, tap Text at the bottom of the screen and type the words you want to convert into speech. You can change the font, color, and position to make sure your text shows up in the video. There are sixteen colors available and you can add outlines and background colors to your text.

•  Third step: add text to speech to your video

From there, tap the Text-to-Speech icon next to the text alignment icon indicated by the image of the person speaking as outlined in red below. 

Once selected, you can now hear a voice speaking the words you typed and see a check mark next to the Text-to-Speech icon to indicate that the feature is active.

To access the new TikTok Text-to-Speech voice, tap the Text-to-Speech icon again. Below you'll be presented with six different sounds to try, from feminine to scary to suit your preferences. Tap the sound you want to use, then return to your TikTok video.

If you want to try a different voice from Text-to-Speech, tap the text and select Change voice. You can also tap Edit if you want to add or remove captions from the video and set the duration if you want the caption labels to appear and disappear at specific times.

•  Step Four: Share Your Video!

Once you're happy with your selected Text-to-Speech voice, edit the rest of your video as needed. You can add filters, stickers, audio and effects to make your videos interesting. When the video is finished, tap next to post a TikTok.
